Singing Folk

I went to see the wonderful Kate Rusby last night at the Wyvern Theatre. Kate was brought to my attention on the Jools Holland Hootenanny this year, and when I found out that she would be touring down to Swindon, I was first to put my name down for a ticket.

Believe me, I was not disappointed. Folk music isn't everyone's cup of tea, so if you don't like slow tunes with a couple of guitars, a double bass and an accordian, this may not be your thing, but I really enjoyed it. With the fantastic John McCusker's music, playing a variety of instruments, and Kate's truly moving voice, this show was worth the whole £18.

Even more entertaining was Kate's sense of humour. A Barnsley lass by heart, her quick sense of humour and quick wit kept us entertained between songs. Sheer talent.

Savvy?

Okay, so Pirates of the Caribbean, The Curse of the Black Pearl was absolutely brilliant. The reason that it was so good was the Jack Sparrow character that Johnny Depp played. Well, back on form, the sequel, Dead Man's Chest was released on Friday, and I hauled my ass to the local Cineworld to check out what all the hype was about.

Well, basically it was a slightly different story, and where there would have been one CGI effect in the first, there were two in the second. All in all, some pretty good entertainment, but I think that at the end of this film, I felt that the format was tired. Sadly, Disney don't feel the same. The cliffhanger at the end left all the hallmarks of a sequel to come. Bugger.

Too Soon?

I'm thinking of going to see United 93 at the cinema this weekend, and I mentioned this at work. It seems that a number of people seem to be against this film, because they think it's too soon after the real event. How soon is too soon? Would it be the same in 10 years time? Or does this put closure on a horrific event? I think I'm going to see it anyway, on the basis that I want to understand more about what happened.

Busy Week Ahead!

Well, looks like a busy week ahead here at Hazzanet Heights. Thursday is the Eurovision Semi Final, Friday I got to see The Da Vinci Code at the Cinema, Saturday is the Eurovision Final, and Sunday, I see Tony Hadley at the Wyvern. I'm fully booked!

Home and Away

Well, I'm not one to normally participate in poor quality television, but Home and Away is terribly addictive. The poor quality, and frankly unbelieveable plots make it a classic comedy in its own right. This week has been really amusing, as feral girl, Tasha, is being sucked into a cult.

Apparently, the idea is that the cult leader, a woman called Mama Rose, tries to get her son, Jonah, to impregnate all of the girls in the camp. Bizarre as hell.
