Slow death of an old friend

Both me and my cheque book have been best of buddies since we met when I was 16. Over the years, I think I should have received a place in the Guinness Book of Records for the number of cheques issued in a year.

Sadly, it seems, the poor old crumply slip of paper is falling out of favour. Indeed, retailers such as Dixons, Currys, Asda, BP and Shell have ditched the poor old cheque as an acceptable form of payment, in lieu of plastic fantastic. It's a shame, as my poor old cheque book liked a good day out. Sadly, it just stays at home now, for the occasional mail-order payment.

Really not smiling!

Well, I pay a foreign cheque into my bank on 6th May, and still to date, I haven't been credited for it, even though their website says that it will be credited in 5 days. Well, the reason why it hasn't been credited is that it's been lost. Yep, the bank lost my cheque. I've been promised that it will be credited on a photocopy, but promises don't get kept at my bank.

In fact, I wrote to them today to close my savings accounts - they're asking if something's upset me!

There is another way... :D
